Aqsa Shams Hair Donation Experience

Aqsa Shams is a journalist and writer, currently associated with Bol News as a
program producer. Recently she donated her Hair to Hair To Help to Help women and children undergoing chemo and have lost their hair.

Q1) Why have you decided to donate your locks?
I wanted to help those fighting chronic cancer disease. It is just a little
help from my end in their struggle. This idea of donating hair touches
my heart and I can’t express how much it heartens and satisfies me that
someone will get my hair and feel better. This is the best use of my hair.
I believe.
Q2)How much length you donated? Your overall experience with Hair
To Help

I have donated 20 inches. It was a good experience but still, I want to
know more about who will get my hair. If I do get to know them, I shall meet her in person and interview her.
Q3)Can you describe the feeling from which you were going through
during hair donation?
I had been waiting for that day since last year. I grew my hair long
and waited for the right length. When I parceled it, I was so happy that
finally, I did it.
Q4) Would you like to donate your Hair again in the future?
For the same cause..
Q5)What was the reaction of your Family/Friends?
They were and are proud of me, since they adored my hair so much, and
they knew how I take care of my hair. Their instant reaction was: Why
did you do that and you shouldn’t have chopped them. When I told them
about the cause they appreciated me. My act has encouraged many
and a number of girls are inspired to do the same.

Q6)According to you, why hair donation is not so common in Pakistan?
A number of girls require to take permission from their parents before
transition or complete transformation. At macro level, families do not
like the idea of very short hair. Especially when someone has very long
and beautiful hair they do not muster enough support. Another point is
religious teachings and some superstitions about hair donation. The second
thought is hair is used for black magic, so many believe hair can be
misused. A number of people asked me, are you sure “NGO” will
provide your hair to cancer patients and will not misuse, then I apprise
them about hair to help in detail.
Q7)An inspirational message you would like to give to motivate others
for Hair Donation in Pakistan.

Growing hair with love, and donating them to those most in need is a
beautiful emotion and moment. It gives one peace and inner satisfaction
that one did something for those battling with the social pressure and
acceptance, besides fighting cancer. If one can provide them little relief,
it counts thousands when they feel better, happy, and confident. Your
little help and deed can bring a smile to someone’s face. Your hair will
grow again. Trust me, donating hair is the best feeling ever. I will love to
donate again and again.
